Clinical (External) Supervision

Clinical supervision is provided for kaimahi who work in health and social services. The purpose of supervision is to provide kaimahi with an independent safe space. This space and time are for the benefit of kaimahi. With the support and guidance of the supervisor they are encouraged to spend time reflecting on their practice and off loading some of the stress and worries that can accumulate when working with vulnerable client groups.

Supervision is usually scheduled monthly for one hour. My preference is that supervision is conducted face to face, however if needed it can be provided using a virtual meeting space.

As the supervisor I do not necessarily have all the answers or solutions, however through conversation and discussion often kaimahi can create their own solutions.

Finally, external supervision provides organisations with a layer of safety for their staff and for their service users that they are acting in accordance with best practice guidelines.

Supervision is also an opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the amazing work that health and social service professionals do every day. It is important for kaimahi to feel seen and heard in their work and supervision is one neutral space where kaimahi can be affirmed and best practice celebrated.
